Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes takes place this Sunday, October 25 from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to Santa Anita's downhill turf track and race about 6 1/2 furlongs searching for the winner's share of the $100,000 purse.

A wide open field of eight older females will take to the track in the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes - race 5 on Santa Anita's Sunday schedule. Pot time is 3:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.

Spirit of Xian - Irish bred Richard Mandella trained filly has 14 career starts, eight of which came in Europe with three wins, a second and three third place finishes. Last time out was an OK second in the minor Unzip Me Stakes behind Singing Kitty on the downhill course September 26. It followed consecutive fourth place finishes - the minor Sandy Blue Stakes at Del Mar in August and the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes at Del Mar in July. Spirit of Xian also had a respectable third in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Stakes at Santa Anita May 3 and a good win after leading throughout in the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes April 4. She has placed in four of six North American starts with fourth place finishes in the other two. She has been competitive every time out the last six months and hopes to be again Sunday from post 5 with Joe Talamo in the reins of the only US graded stakes winner in the field.

Baruta - Brazilian bred Richard Mandella trained mare had placed in four straight races before a sixth as favorite last time out in the restricted C.E.R.F. Stakes September 6. The results include a good second in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes August 16 and two straight Allowance scores this past summer. She has 20 career starts with five wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes and will be after her first stakes score Sunday on a downhill track she's posted a win, three seconds and a third place finish in six career starts. Baruta enters in decent form from gate 6 with Rafael Bejarano getting the mount.

Off the Road - Brazilian bred Richard Mandella trained filly makes her North American debut Sunday having posted three wins and three second place finishes so far including a Group 1 race just over a year ago. She enters off a career-worst effort - an eleventh place finish in January at home. Off the Road makes her first start in 10 months Saturday looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristic effort. Mike Smith gets the call from the outside gate 8.

Amaranth - graded stakes placed OJ Jaurequi trained filly won this race last year but has placed in just three of six starts since. Last time out was a win in the minor Asparagus Stakes at Stockton September 19 after a third in the minor C.E.R.F. Stakes September 6, a fourth in the minor Daisycutter Handicap in August and an eighth in the Grade 2 Great Lady M Stakes in July. She also won the minor Desert Stormer Stakes in her last start on this track - June 14. Amaranth has won three of her last seven starts overall, but has been disappointing at times over that span as well. She chases her first graded stakes score from gate 4 with Mario Gutierrez guiding her.

Velvet Mesquite - Blake Heap trained mare has been up and down in her career. She won the minor California Distaff Handicap on this track a year ago and started out 2015 with a respectable third in the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes on this track - her only graded stakes action to date. Velvet Mesquite has failed to place in her last two start ahead of this week however - a fifth last time out in the minor California Distaff here October 10 followed a seventh in the minor C.E.R.F. Stakes at Del Mar September 6. She looks to get back to the form she displayed a year ago and is the most experienced of all the entries on this unique track - five wins and two third place finishes in nine starts on the downhill course. She departs from gate 2 with Kent Desormeaux in the saddle.

Theatre Star - Tom Proctor trained mare has placed in 10 of 15 career starts five wins, three seconds and two third place finishes. She won the minor Justakiss Stakes at Delaware Park in June and has since finished third in a pair of minor stakes races - the Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint September 14 and the Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar in July. She has yet to place in three graded stakes tries but has been decent in three starts heading into the weekend. Drayden Van Dyke will be in the irons Sunday as Theatre Star attempts to win her first graded stakes race.

Chati's On Top - Mike Puype trained filly makes her graded stakes debut Sunday after 15 career starts produced four wins, six seconds and two third place finishes. She has finished first or second in her last six starts overall and has won three of her last four. Last time out was a win in the minor Solana Beach Handicap at Del Mar August 16 after a second in the minor Fran's Valentine Stakes here in May and two straight Allowance scores on this track earlier this year. Chati's On Top has been impressive in every start this year and looks ready for her step up in competition. Santiago Gonzales has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

Kool Kat - James Cassidy trained mare has three wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 19 career starts and makes her graded stakes debut Sunday. She enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Kentucky Downs September 19, a sixth, a fourth and a third respectively in a trio of similar races earlier this year. Kool Kat has placed in just one of her last four starts overall and is in just OK form ahead of this weekend. James Graham gets the call hoping for Kool Kat's second win in a row - from post 3.
