Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 NYRA.com King's Bishop Stakes comes our way from a very busy Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York this Saturday, August 23. A group of three year olds will take to Saratoga's dirt track and race seven furlongs for a purse of $500,000.

2015 King's Bishop Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Holy Boss 3-1 - Steve Asmussen trained colt enters on a nice four race win streak. Last time out the win was by a comfortable 2 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes here August 1 after two minor stakes scores - the Chick Lang in May and the Bachelor Stakes in April. He has eight career starts with five wins and a second place finish and enters this week on fire. Ricardo Santana has been pegged with trying to guide the morning line favorite to his fifth straight win in his first starts against top company - from post 7.

Competitive Edge 7-2 - Todd Pletcher trained colt has won four of six career starts but has failed to place in his last two overall. Last time out was a fourth after setting the pace and fading in the competitive Grade 1 Haskell Invitational August 2 after a sixth as 2-5 favorite in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park June 6. Before that were four straight wins - the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile by 4 1/2 lengths at Churchill Downs May 2, the minor Tamarac Stakes in March and by 5 3/4 lengths in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at this distance in September. Competitive Edge had been untouchable before his last two starts - hopes are he can return to that form Saturday. John Velazquez will be in the saddle from post 3 looking to make it 3-for-3 at Saratoga.

King's Bishop Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Grand Bili 5-1 - has two wins and two seconds in five career starts for trainer Gustavo Delgado and enters off a career best result - a win in the Grade 3 Carry Back Stakes at Gulfstream July 5 with a field best 108 Beyer Speed Figure. That followed a respectable second in the minor Big Cypress Stakes in June and a tenth in the minor Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico June 16. Grand Bili hopes to build on a very good effort last time out when he departs from gate 2 with Javier Castellano aboard.

Mr. Z 6-1 - has just two wins in 16 career starts for trainer D. Wayne Lukas has looked good in his last two starts - a second last time out in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby July 18 followed a win in the minor Ohio Derby at Thistletown June 20. Before that result were two off-the-board finishes against top competition- a fifth in the Preakness Stakes and a thirteenth in the Kentucky Derby. He does have four third place finishes the last nine months as well including the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby in April and the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes in February. Mr. Z hasn't been scared of top competition in his career yet and enters in OK form. Joe Bravo gets the mount from post 5.

Watershed 8-1 - will make just his second career start for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin after a maiden win at first asking - on this track August 7. Watershed is a relatively unknown commodity but will have the seasoned Joel Rosario in the reins from gate 4 Saturday.

March 10-1 - had a couple of graded stakes scores earlier this year for trainer Chad Brown- the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct in April and the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park June 6 but enters off a career worst effort - a sixth in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes here August 1. He now has three wins and a second in six career starts and will be out to avenge an ugly effort last time out. Irad Ortiz gets the call as March tries for his third win in four starts - from gate 10.

Classy Class 12-1 - has eight career starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin with three wins and two third place finishes. He has five graded stakes starts with a pair of thirds (the Grade 3 Withers Stakes and Grade 3 Gotham Stakes) being the best results. He has won two of his last three starts overall however - both Allowance races at Belmont Park - the last coming July 9. Classy Class will be after his first stakes score when he departs from gate 8 Saturday and enters in so-so form with Gary Stevens slated to ride.

Runhappy 12-1 - Maria Borell trained colt has four career starts with three wins - the only blemish being a ninth in the Grade 3 LeComte Stakes in January in his only graded stakes start to date. Last time out was a superb 2 3/4 length Allowance Optional Claiming score at Ellis Park July 31 after another win in a similar race at Indiana Grand July 7. Runhappy looks for his first stakes score Saturday when he leaves from an unfavorable outside post in very enticing form with Edgar Prado aboard.

Commute 20-1 - Mark Casse trained colt makes his graded stakes debut Friday after six career starts yielded two wins, a second and a third place finish. Last time out was one of those wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Churchill Downs June 19. Before that was a seventh in his only stakes action to date - the minor James W. Murphy Stakes at Pimlico May 16 and a second and third place respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita. Commute takes a huge step up in competition in decent form - from the rail with Shaun Bridgmohan in the saddle.

Loose on the Town 20-1 - will make just his third career start Saturday having posted a second last time out in an Allowance here August 1 and a maiden score at first asking - at Belmont park June 27. Loose on the Town takes an enormous step up in competition Saturday from post 9 with Jose Lezcano in the reins.

Limousine Liberal 30-1 - has two career starts for trainer Ben Colebrook with two wins. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off an Allowance score at Ellis Park July 18 and a maiden score at first asking June 21. Limousine Liberal steps up looking to keep the perfect record intact - from gate 6 with Jose Ortiz guiding him.
