2016 Arcadia Stakes Race Preview

Om - has 10 career starts for trainer Dan Hendricks with five wins, a second and two third place finishes. He has placed in seven straight races ahead of this weekend - a nice win last time out in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile here December 26 followed a somewhat disappointing third as favorite in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar November 28 and two good wins - the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at this distance here October 24 and in gate-to-wire fashion in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby over Prospect Park September 6. Before that was a second as favorite behind Prospect Park in the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap August 9, a third in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Affirmed and a dominating 2 1/4 length Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita in May. Om is one of two horses to ever beat American Pharoah - by 7 1/4 lengths back in August and has been very good in the lead-up to this race. He looks for his fourth win in four starts on Santa Anita turf in his first start against older entries as he leaves from the rail with Gary Stevens aboard./p>

Obviously - multiple Grade 1 winner, Irish bred gelding was last seen running a respectable second as favorite with a 104 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 2 San Gabriel Stakes here January 2 which followed a ninth in the Breeders' Cup Mile, an OK third in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile September 13 and 10 months away. Before the layoff was a fifth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Mile, a fourth in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap in August, 2014 and two straight graded stakes scores - the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile in June, 2014 and the Grade 3 American Stakes in May of that year - he won both of those races two straight years. Obviously now has 25 career starts with 11 wins, five seconds and three third place finishes and will look for his first win in 20 months. He has placed in two of his last three starts overall since his return to the track against some top older competition as well. Expect Obviously to be competitive this week. Mike Smith has the mount from gate 6.

Prospect Park - has 11 career starts with three wins, four seconds and two third place finishes and was on the Triple Crown trail before and irregular blood count derailed that plan. He was good this past summer - a third last time out back on September 6 in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby Stakes followed a win in his grass debut over Om - by 4 1/2 lengths in the Grade 3 La Jolla Handicap August 9 and a pair of respectable runner-up finishes - the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby in July and the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes in June. He also had a decent second behind Dortmund in his graded stakes debut- the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes with a career best 102 Beyer Speed Figure March 7 of last year. Prospect Park has three wins, three seconds and a third place finish in his last eight starts overall and hopes keep the roll going in his first start in five months. Kent Desormeaux gets the call from the outside post 7.

Bolo - has eight career starts with three wins and two third place finishes for trainer Carla Gaines but was last seen running last of nine as favorite in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational way back on July 4. He won his stakes debut - the minor Eddie Logan Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths on turf December 27, 2014 and an Allowance race in gate-to-wire fashion at here in May but also had a disappointing twelfth in the Kentucky Derby. Other good results include a third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby April 4 of last year and another third behind Dortmund and Prospect Park in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes - his graded stakes bow March 7, 2015. Bolo has shown form in the past but has placed in just one of his last three starts overall. He is a tad tough to figure out ahead of this weekend in his first start in seven months. He hopes to get back on track with Flavien Prat in the irons from gate 5.

Big Cazanova - Argentinean bred Peter Miller trained Ringling raced against the best at home and fared well placing in numerous Group 1,2 and 3 races. He posted three wins, a second and two third place finishes in his first six starts here - no stakes but failed to place in his next two - both graded stakes races. He won the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes November 29, 2014 - his only stakes win state-side and has been up and down since. Big Cazanova posted consecutive second place finishes in the fall - an Allowance Optional Claiming October 30 followed a second in the Grade 2 City of Hope Stakes September 27. He has failed to place in his last three however - a fifth last time out in the minor Cotton Fitzsimmons Stakes at Turf Paradise January 16 followed a ninth in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes here in December and a fourth in the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes in November. He has placed in just two of his last 10 starts overall - in less-than-spectacular form ahead of this weekend. Jockey Joe Talamo hopes to change all of that from gate 4 Saturday.

Yes Yes Yes - has just three wins in 20 career starts for trainer Peter Eurton to go along with five seconds and three third place finishes. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off a runner-up finish in a Claiming race on this track January 3, a tenth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Del Mar in November, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track in October and a win in a similar race at Del Mar in September. He has placed in three of his last four starts overall but could be in over his head in his major step up in competition. Brice Blanc will be in the saddle from post 3.

Cape Wolfe - British bred Philip D'Amato trained gelding has three wins, a second and three third place finishes in 13 career starts and had three straight wins at home before his only North American start which resulted in a third place finish in the minor Clocker's Corner Stakes here January 24. He really caught fire in Britain before shipping and looked OK last time out. Hopes are that he can regain his summer form and make a little noise on North American soil. Rafael Bejarano has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from gate 2 Saturday.
