Las Virgenes Stakes 2016 at Santa Anita Park

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 Las Virgenes Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, February 6 from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Three year old fillies will be featured when they take to Santa Anita's dirt track and race one mile searching for the winner's share of the $300,000 purse and the 10 qualifying points toward the Kentucky Oaks in May.

Seven sophomore fillies will line up in the Las Virgenes Stakes - race 5 on Santa Anita's stacked Saturday card. Post time is 2:30 PM. Let's take a glance into the past performances of all seven entries for this intriguing Road to the Kentucky Oaks Grade 2 stakes.

2016 Las Virgenes Stakes Race Preview

Songbird - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly and reigning Eclipse Award winner for two year old fillies won all four of her starts in 2015, the last three in Grade 1 events. Her debut was by 6 1/2 lengths in July which was followed by wins by an impressive 5 1/4 lengths with a 96 Beyer Speed Figure as even money favorite in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante September 5, the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita September 26, and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last time out by an impressive 5 3/4 lengths. She hasn't been touched yet - as impressive as any horse in any division last year and will look to keep the impressive roll going Saturday from gate 6. Mike Smith has the mount on the obvious favorite.

Street Fancy - Phil D'Amato trained filly will hit the track for the fourth time Saturday having posted two wins and a third place finish so far. She enters off a terrific win at 6-1 odds in her graded stakes debut - the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 12 after a third in the minor Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar November 15 and a maiden score at first asking October 18 at Santa Anita. Street Fancy has been impressive so far and hopes to keep the roll going from post 3 Saturday. Victor Espinoza gets the call.

Land Over Sea - Doug O'Neill trained filly will hit the track for the sixth time Saturday. Last time out was a seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile October 31 which followed a respectable second behind Songbird in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita September 26, a third - behind Songbird and Pretty N Cool in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante September 5 and a maiden score in her second career start - at Del Mar July 29. Land Over Sea isn't scared of top company and searches for a bounceback performance Saturday - from gate 2 with Mario Gutierrez aboard.

Decked Out - Keith Desormeaux trained colt won her debut on this track in May and has struggled since. Last time out was a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming here January 18 after a seventh in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes on this track January 2, a fifth in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs September 12, a fourth in the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga in August, a third in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes in July and a second in the minor Astoria Stakes in June. She now has a win, a second and two third place finishes in seven career starts and enters having placed in just one of her last four races overall. Decked Out looks for her first stakes score in her sixth try Saturday - from post 5 with Kent Desormeaux guiding her.

Jade Princess - Bob Baffert trained filly has two wins in four career starts. Last time out was one of those wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track January 8. Before that was a fifth in her only stakes action to date - the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes September 26 and a maiden score at Del Mar in her second career start. Jade Princess hopes for her first stakes win Saturday when she leaves from gate 4 with Martin Garcia in the saddle.

She's a Warrior - will race in stakes company for the first time Saturday after three career starts produces two runner-up finishes and a third - all MSW races. Last time out was a second on this track December 30 after a third in November and a second in her debut in October. She's a Warrior steps up in so-so form and will have Flavien Prat guiding her from the rail.

Merirosvo - Patrick Gallagher trained filly has just two career starts with one win - that coming last time out in this track January 3. Her debut was disappointing - an eleventh place finish at Del Mar in November. She steps into stakes company for the first time Saturday and looks as though she'll be in over her head. Drayden Van Dyke has been tabbed to ride from the outside post 7.
