2017 Breeders' Cup Distaff Field & Odds at Del Mar

Stellar Wind 5-2

Defending fourth-place finisher - John Sadler Eclipse Award winner as 2015 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly arrives on a nice three-race win streak - the G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes here July 30, the G1 Beholder Mile at Santa Anita June 13 and on April 14 and the G1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park. The wins followed her OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff and another good two race win streak - both over the terrific Beholder including the G1 Zenyatta Stakes at Santa Anita October 1 and the 2016 G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes on this track. She also had a second behind Beholder after a seven-month layoff in the G1 Vanity Mile June 4, 2016, a good second in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Distaff and yet another tidy two race win streak in 2015 - the G3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar and the G2 Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita. Other results include a terrific win in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 4, 2015 and an upset 2 3/4 length victory in the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes at 7-1 odds February 28, 2015. She now has 10 wins, two seconds and a third-place finish in 15 career starts and has won five of her last six overall - as competitive as they come when healthy. The morning line favorite shoots for a fourth straight win Friday from gate 2.

Elate 3-1

Has placed in eight of nine career starts for trainer Bill Mott - four wins, three seconds and a third-place finish. She arrives off a good win in the G1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park September 30 which followed a terrific 5 1/4 length win in the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 19, an OK second behind Abel Tasman in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga July 23, a good 5 1/2 length win in the overnight Light Hearted Stakes at Delaware Park June 15, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs May 5 and an unfortunate DNF after being pulled up in the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland April 8. Before that was an OK third in the G3 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park in March and a second in the minor Suncoast Stakes in February. Elate, outside of one bad outing has represented herself well every time out and hopes to again Friday from post 5 as the morning line second choice.

Horse Racing Rebates

Forever Unbridled 4-1

Defending third-place finisher in this race - consistent Dallas Stewart trained mare has seven wins, three seconds and four third place finishes in 16 career starts - she was third in this race last year. She enters off a win in the G1 Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga August 26 after a nice win by 1 3/4 lengths after closing from sixth in the G2 Fleur de Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs June 17 in her only other start this year. Before that was her third behind Songbird in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Distaff, a win in the G1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park October 1, 2016, an OK third in the 2016 G1 Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga August 27, a second in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont Park June 11 and a three-race win streak - the G1 Apple Blossom Stakes at Oaklawn Park April 15, the G3 Houston Ladies Classic January 30 and the G3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct November 28, 2015. Forever Unbridled has shown serious form in the past, has looked good in her last nine starts overall and hopes for a third straight graded stakes score Friday from gate 6.

Abel Tasman 4-1

Will race for the eleventh time for trainer Bob Baffert having won six times and posted three second place finishes in her career already. Last time out was an OK second in the G1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx September 23 which followed a good win in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga July 23, another nice win in the G1 Acorn Stakes a BRIS Speed rating of 103 at Belmont Park June 10, a good last-to-first 1 1/4 length win with a tidy 92 Beyer Speed Figure in the $1 million G1 Kentucky Oaks May 5 and another win in her stakes debut - the G1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 10. Before that were two straight respectable second place finishes - the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 8 and behind Unique Bella in the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes March 4. Abel Tasman has six wins and three runner-up finishes in her last nine starts overall and hopes to jump back in the win column where she belongs from gate 4.

Paradise Woods 9-2

Has just six starts for trainer Richard Mandella with three wins and a second-place finish. She was last seen posting a nice win in the G1 Zenyatta Stakes at Santa Anita September 30 which followed a sixth in the G3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar August 27, a disappointing eleventh after fading as favorite in the G1 Kentucky Oaks May 5, a terrific record-breaking, gate-to-wire 11 3/4 length win over Abel Tasman among others in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 8 (she posted an incredible 110 Beyer Speed Figure in that race) and a maiden score on that track March 11. Paradise Woods was very good in her first three starts, struggled in her next two but rediscovered her form last time out. Hopes are that she builds on a good effort Friday from post 7.

Romantic Vision 15-1

George Arnold II trained mare has six wins, four seconds and two third-place finishes in her 19 career starts. She arrives off a career-best effort - a win in the G1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland October 8 which followed a 1 1/4 length win in the G3 Locust Grove Stakes at Churchill Downs September 16, a sixth in the minor Summer Colony Stakes at Saratoga August 20, an eighth in the G2 Fleur de Lis Handicap June 16 and a respectable second in the G1 La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs in May. She won two of her three previous starts - both Allowance Optional Claiming races. Romantic Vision hadn't looked great before her last two starts overall and will be out to build on those two nice efforts Friday from the outside gate 8.

Champagne Room 15-1

Eclipse Award winner for 2016 Champion 2-Year-Old Filly has three wins, a second and two third place finishes in seven career starts for trainer Peter Eurton. Last time out was a win in the listed Remington Park Oaks September 24 which followed almost eight months away and a third in the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita February 5. Before that was a terrific career-defining win at 33-1 odds in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in November, a somewhat disappointing fourth in the G1 Chandelier Stakes on this track October 1, an OK third, a nose back in the 2016 G1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes and an uber-successful stakes debut - a win by 1 1/4 lengths in the G2 Sorrento Stakes here last August 6. Champagne Room has been a factor in every race so far and hopes to stay competitive from the rail.

Mopotism 30-1

Doug O'Neill trained filly has 12 career starts with two wins, four runner-ups and one third-place finish to show for it. She broke maiden by 4 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita December 30 and has been up and down in six starts since - a fourth last time out in the G1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx September 23 followed a seventh in the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 19, a second in the G3 Indiana Oaks July 15, another second in the G2 Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita June 17, a disappointing tenth in the G1 Kentucky Oaks May 5 and a fourth in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 8. Before that was a nice gate-to-wire win in the minor Island Fashion Stakes at Sunland Park February 26 and a decent second behind Unique Bella in the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita February 5. Mopotism has OK in her career but has failed to hit the board in her last two starts overall. She tries to snap a six-race losing streak Friday from post 3.
