2017 Los Alamitos Derby Entries at Los Alamitos
Art Sherman (formerly Bob Baffert) trained colt has been decent in his six career starts - three wins and a second-place finish so far. He debuted with a fourth at Santa Anita June 25 and then reeled off three good wins - in the G1 Del Mar Futurity by 4 1/4 lengths with a career best 103 Beyer Speed Figure September 5, in the G2 Best Pal Stakes by 6 1/2 lengths at Del Mar August 13 and a nice maiden score at Santa Anita July 10. He was last seen posting a career-worst effort however - an eighth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile back on November 5 which followed a respectable second as favorite in the G1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita October 1. Klimt looks to get back on the winning track in his first start in seven months. Rafael Bejarano gets the call from gate 6.
Has placed in all five career starts for trainer Bob Baffert - three wins and two runner-up finishes. He enters on a nice two-race win streak - the minor Easy Goer Stakes by an eye-opening 3 3/4 lengths after a troubled start last time out at Belmont Park June 10 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita May 20. Before that was a respectable second in his only graded stakes action to date - the G3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland April 15, a maiden score in March and a second in his debut. West Coast has been a factor in every race so far and hopes to be so again Saturday with Drayden Van Dyke in the saddle from post 5.

Has placed in four of five career starts for trainer Doug O'Neill - two wins and two second-place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut last time out and finished a respectable second behind heavily-favored Battle of Midway in the G3 Affirmed Stakes on this track June 24 which followed a disappointing sixth as favorite in the minor Snow Chief Stakes at Santa Anita May 29, a nice1 1/4 length win in the minor Silky Sullivan Stakes at Golden Gate April 30, an OK second in the minor Echo Eddie Stakes April 8 and a maiden score at first asking on this track March 4. B Squared has been competitive so far and will try to build on a reasonable effort last time out from gate 4 with Corey Nakatani guiding him.
Term of Art
Has placed in six of 11 career starts for trainer Doug O'Neill - two wins, a second and three third place finishes. He enters off an OK third in the G3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita June 24 after a disappointing last of 10 finish in the Preakness Stakes May 20, a seventh in the G1 Santa Anita Derby April 8, an OK third in the G2 San Felipe Stakes March 11, a fourth in the G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes here February 4, a fifth in the G3 Sham Stakes January 7 and a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar November 27. Before that was a ninth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a maiden score on this track October 8. Term Of Art has been inconsistent so far, was well-beaten in his last six starts overall but hopes for a second graded stakes score Saturday. Jockey Evin Roman will try to accomplish that goal from the outside gate 8.
Has placed in eight of nine career starts for trainer John Sadler - three wins, a second and four third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut last time out and finished an OK third in the G2 Penn Mile June 3 after a second in the minor Desert Code Stakes at Santa Anita May 13, a nice win in the minor Northern Spur Stakes at Oaklawn Park April 15, a third in the minor Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita March 19 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track in February. Outside of one bad effort in his second career start Cistron has been a factor in every career start. He hopes to keep the roll going from gate 2 with Tyler Baze in the reins.
Has nine career starts for trainer Eric Kruljac with a win, three seconds and three third place finishes. He arrives on the heels of consecutive OK seconds - an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Santa Anita June 11 and the G3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes on that track May 13. Before that was a sixth in his graded stakes debut - the G1 Santa Anita Derby April 8, a maiden score on that track February 25, a third, a second and a fourth respectively in a trio of MSW races. Kimbear has been OK lately and will chase a first ever stakes score from the rail. Joe Talamo has the mount.
Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt has placed in three of his four career starts - two wins and a third-place finish - all at Santa Anita. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off his worst career-effort - a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming May 21 which followed two straight wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming April 29 and a MSW April 2. He finished third in his debut in March. Colonist has been OK against lesser competition but will need a strong bounce back in order to contend. Flavien Prat has been tabbed to ride from post 3.
Doug O'Neill trained colt has hit the board in seven of 10 career starts - two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. He enters off an ugly tenth in the minor Snow Chief Stakes at Santa Anita May 29 which followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming April 24 on that track, a ninth in his only graded stakes action to date - the G1 Santa Anita Derby April 8, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming March 19, and consecutive thirds in minor stakes action - the King Glorious Stakes in December and the Golden State Juvenile Stakes in November. Milton Freewater has been less-than-spectacular lately but hopes to change his fortunes around Saturday from post 7. Norberto Arroyo Jr. is scheduled to ride.
