Flamboyant

French bred Patrick Gallagher trained gelding has been up and down in his career and enters this week in typically inconsistent form. Last time out was a respectable second in the G3 All American Stakes at Golden Gate May 29 which followed an ugly twelfth in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes at Santa Anita March 25 and consecutive thirds - the G2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita February 4 and in the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar November 25. He wasn't great before that - consecutive eighths including the G2 John Henry Turf Cup at Santa Anita October 2 and the G2 Del Mar Handicap in August followed an OK third in the G3 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar last July 17 and a quality fifth in the Group 1 Dubai Turf at Meydan March 26, 2016 against some of the best turf horses on the planet. He won the G2 San Marcos Stakes in February of last year and the 2016 San Gabriel Stakes at 46-1 odds last January as well but hasn't been the same since. Flamboyant now has five wins, four seconds and seven third place finishes in 27 career starts and has been OK in three of his last four starts overall. Brice Blanc will be in the irons hoping to gain a little momentum - from gate 8.

Si Sage

He failed to place in six races after that but had a nice win April 25, 2015 in the G3 Last Tycoon at Santa Anita. Si Sage was sent to the sidelines for a year after that. Si Sage returns Tuesday after another year layoff, a close fourth in the G2 Eddie Read Stakes at Del May July 17, 2016, a good win in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita May 29, 2016, a fourth in the last year's G3 American Stakes May 6 and an eighth in the G3 Thunder Road Stakes a month before that. He now has five wins, six seconds and two third place finishes in 27 career starts and has placed in just two of his last 11 starts overall - both of those being graded stakes wins. He tries to gain a little consistency Tuesday when he leaves from post 7 with Rafael Bejarano in the reins.

Kenjisstorm

Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score here May 14 which followed consecutive runner-up finishes in similar races on this track earlier this year. He failed to place in his previous three starts. Kenjisstorm has three graded stakes starts in early 2016 - a fourth in the G3 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate April 30 followed a seventh in the G3 San Juan Capistrano Stakes April 10 and a fifth in the G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile in March. He hopes to hit the board in graded stakes company for the first time in his fifth try when he leaves from post 3 with Flavien Prat in the irons.

Hunt

Irish bred Phil D'Amato trained gelding has 20 career starts with five wins, five seconds and three third place finishes. Hunt chases his first graded stakes score Tuesday having failed to place in three of his last four starts. Mike Smith will be in the irons hoping to change Hunt's fortunes around from the rail.

Smokey Image

He enters in the heels of consecutive thirds - the minor Crystal Waters Stakes last time out on this track May 20 and an Allowance Optional Claiming race here March 31. Before that was eight months away, a sixth in the minor Real Good Deal Stakes at Del Mar, a fifth in the minor Rainbow Stakes last June, an OK third in the G3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes here in May, 2016, a seventh in the G1 Santa Anita Derby in April, 2016 and a fifth one month before that in the G2 San Felipe Stakes. Smokey Image hopes to return o the form that saw him win his first six career starts when he leaves from gate 2 with Corey Nakatani in the saddle.

Pee Wee Reese

Lightly raced Phil D'Amato trained colt has four wins and two second place finishes in eight career starts. He makes his graded stakes debut Tuesday off a second in the minor Crystal Waters Stakes here May 20 and four straight wins including two Allowance Optional Claiming races on this track this past spring. Pee Wee Reese has been trending upward ahead of this weekend and hopes to make the most of his graded stakes bow. Joe Talamo will be in charge from the outside post 9.

Patentar
