2017 San Juan Capistrano Stakes Entries at Santa Anita Park

Syntax - Irish bred Phil D'Amato trainee has three wins, four seconds and four third place finishes in 18 career starts. He also had a ninth in the G3 Hawthorne Derby in October, 2015 and a sixth in the G3 Jefferson Cup at Churchill Downs in September of that year. Syntax has placed in just four of his last eight starts overall but has hit the board in his last two overall - certainly improving. Rafael Bejarano has been tabbed to ride from post 5.

Generoso - defending sixth place finisher in this race - Uruguayan bred Paulo Lobo trained gelding has 26 career starts with four wins, eight seconds and two third place finishes. He won a couple of big races at home including the Group 2 Piratinga in January, 2015 but hasn't been great on North American soil. Last time out was a fifth in a Claiming here January 27 after a second in a similar race here January 1, seven months away and a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming May 21. His only other graded stakes start resulted in a twelfth in the 2015 G2 Hollywood Turf Cup. Generoso searches for his first win in 28 months Saturday and enters in so-so form. Tiago Pereira has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

Papacoolpapacool - has 21 career starts for trainer Phil D'Amato with five wins, a second and four third place finishes. He enters off a disappointing eighth in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes here March 25 which followed his first win in quite some time - an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 5, a third in the minor Winter Stakes at Los Alamitos December 17, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November and a pair of thirds in similar races this past summer. He has five prior graded stakes starts and has failed to place in any including a ninth in the G3 Thunder Road Stakes last April, a sixth in the 2015 Del Mar Derby and a fourth in the 2015 La Jolla Handicap. Papacoolpapacool has been OK against lesser company lately but will still be in search of a first stakes score from gate 6 Saturday. Flavien Prat gets the call.

Power Foot - Neil Drysdale trained gelding has just four wins and seven third place finishes in 33 career starts. He started 2015 with an Allowance Optional Claiming score (his last win) and went on to consecutive respectable third place finishes in graded stakes action. He has failed to place in eight of his last nine starts ahead of this weekend - his only recent podium was a third two starts back in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track February 25. Last time out was a sixth in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes here March 25. Before that was a seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 5, a fourth in the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup in November, a fifth in the G3 Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes September 10 and a seventh in the G1 Del Mar Handicap August 20. Power Foot hasn't been great and hopes to turn his fortunes around Saturday with Norberto Arroyo in the saddle from gate 2.

Runasaurus Rex - lightly raced Michael Pender trained gelding has eight career starts with three wins, a second and a third place finish. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off a fourth in a Claiming here March 9, a Claiming score on this track February 19, another fourth in a Claiming at Del Mar in November and another Claiming score in October - on this very track. Runasaurus Rex has been OK against lesser competition but takes a huge step up in competition Saturday. Brice Blanc will be in the reins from post 3.

Inordinate - Richard Baltas trainee has 13 career starts with two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. He placed in five of seven starts in Europe to start his career including a third in a pair of Group 3 races in the summer of 2015 - he has been less-than-spectacular in six starts in the United States. He enters off a seventh in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes here March 25 which followed an OK second in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track February 25, six months off and three straight fifth place finishes - the G1 Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga in August and two Allowance Optional Claiming races and a third in a similar race at Aqueduct in April. Inordinate hasn't been all that impressive but will be out to make a little noise Saturday with Corey Nakatani guiding him from gate 4.
