OffTrackBetting.com - Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will play host to the G1 Diana Stakes on Saturday, July 22. A group of fillies and mares three years old and upward will take to Saratoga's turf track and race 1 1/8 miles searching for the winner's share of the $500,000 purse.
A quality field of six will line up in the Diana Stakes - race 10 on Saratoga's busy Saturday schedule. Post time is 5:55 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all six entries for this competitive G1 stakes.
Impressive Chad Brown trained star mare has been superb in her 11-race career despite a bout of laminitis which she gracefully conquered - eight wins and three second place finishes. She enters on he heels of a nice bounce back win in the G1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita May 27 which followed consecutive close runner-up finishes - the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes by a head at Keeneland April 15 and by just a nose in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. Before that was a great win in the G1 Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park October 8, another second in the G2 Ballston Spa Stakes at Saratoga August 27 and 13 months away from the track. Prior to the layoff were wins in the G1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July, 2015, in the minor Wonder Again Stakes, the G3 Appalachian Stakes and a career defining 2 3/4 length win in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Lady Eli was an Eclipse Award finalist in 2014 and 2016 and looks to get back on that path again. She could easily be undefeated and will be out to build a new win streak from post 3 with Irad Ortiz guiding the morning line favorite and 123-pound highweight.
Chad Brown trained filly has four wins and a third-place finish in her eight career starts. She made her North American debut and posted an Allowance score by 2 1/4 lengths at Keeneland April 14 and followed that with a terrific win last time out in the G1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont Park June 10. Before that was an eleventh in a Group 3 race in France, a twelfth in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches in France last May and a third in a Group 3 race there in April, 2016. She won her first two career starts including the Group 3 Prix d'Aumale in September, 2015 and has rediscovered that form since shipping to North America. Antonoe shoots for a third straight win (second straight G1) when she departs from gate 2 with Javier Castellano aboard the morning line second choice.

Kiaran McLaughlin trained mare has hit the board in 11 of 15 career starts - seven wins, a second and three third place finishes. She enters off an OK third behind Antonoe in the G1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont Park June 10 which followed a nice three race win streak - over Lady Eli the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland April 15, the G2 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay March 11 and by 1 1/4 lengths in the G3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 11. Before that was a fourth in the G3 Marshua's River Stakes on that track January 14 and two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores in the fall. Dickinson has won five of her last seven starts overall since moving to turf and hopes to continue the momentum Saturday. Paco Lopez rides the intriguing third betting choice from the outside gate 6.
Lightly raced British bred Graham Motion trained filly will race for the seventh time Saturday having posted three wins, a second and a third-place finish so far. Last time out was an OK second in the G2 New York Stakes at Belmont Park June 9 which followed a quality third behind Dickinson and Lady Eli in the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland April 15, a terrific win in the G3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes on that track October 21 and an Allowance score at Belmont Park September 18 in her North American debut. Before that was a tenth in a Group 3 race in Germany last April and a Maiden score at first asking at Baden Baden in September, 2015. Quidura has been good so far in her career and will be to keep an impressive run going Saturday from gate 4. Junior Alvarado will be in the saddle.
Shug McGaughey trained filly has won five of 13 career starts with two seconds and one third place finish. She enters off consecutive runner-up finishes - the G3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes last time out at Parx July 4 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park June 11. Before that were consecutive fifth place finishes - the minor Plenty of Grace Stakes at Aqueduct April 15 and the G2 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay March 11, a good win in the minor Winter Memories Stakes at Aqueduct November 25, an OK third in the G3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes at Keeneland in October and a terrific 3 1/4 length win in the G3 Commonwealth Oaks at Laurel Park September 24. She also had a sixth in the G2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga August 21, a win in the minor Christiana Stakes at Delaware Park last July 6 and a fifth in the minor Memories Of Silver Stakes at Aqueduct last April. My Impression has three stakes wins in her career, has been knocking on the door of another and will try to snap a four-race losing streak from post 5. Jose Ortiz gets the call.
Bill Mott trained filly won the minor PG Johnson Stakes in September, 2015 in her second career starts and went on to a terrific win in the G3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland in October of that year. She was a somewhat disappointing seventh in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf but rebounded in her next start winning the minor Sanibel Island Handicap at Gulfstream in March. She's been up and down since - a fourth last time out in the G1 Just a Game Stakes at Belmont Park June 10 followed a last of seven in the G2 Churchill Distaff May 6, a fourth in the G2 Royal Heroine Stakes at Santa Anita April 8 and consecutive seconds - the G2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs in November and in the QE II Challenge Cup in October. Before that was a career-defining win in the G1 Del Mar Oaks August 20. Harmonize has been a tad inconsistent and looks to snap a five-race losing streak Saturday. John Velazquez has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from the rail.
