American Gal 5-2
Up-and-coming Bob Baffert trained filly has five career starts and three wins, a second and a third-place finish. She was last seen posting a career-best effort - a 4 3/4 length win in the G3 Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont Park July 9 after a quality second behind the impressive Abel Tasman in the G1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos in December, a respectable third as favorite - after a troubled trip in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies November 5, a good 6 1/2 length win in the minor Anakia Stakes at Santa Anita October 23 and a maiden score by 2 1/4 lengths at first asking - at Del Mar August 14. American Gal has been competitive every time out and looks to be in good shape to claim her second straight graded stakes score. Jose Ortiz gets the call on the morning line favorite.
Faypien 3-1
Has four career starts for trainer Bob Baffert with three wins and a third-place finish - all at Santa Anita. She arrives on a terrific three race win streak - the G2 Summertime Oaks last time out June 17, the listed Angels Flight Stakes May 14 and a 4 1/4 length maiden score April 23 after an OK third in her debut March 11. Faypien has been on a serious upward trajectory lately and hopes to keep the roll going Saturday. Rafael Bejarano will be in the saddle of the morning line second choice and 120-pound co-highweight from gate 8 as Faypien shoots for a second straight graded stakes score.
