2020 Las Virgenes Stakes Preview, Field & Odds
A runaway 10 3/4 length maiden winner going 6 1/2 furlongs here on Dec. 29, the Richard Baltas-trained Venetian Harbor heads a field of five sophomore fillies going one mile in Saturday's Grade II, $200,000 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, February 8.
The one-mile race serves as a prep for the $400,000 Santa Anita Oaks (G2) April 4 and the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs May 1, to which it provides qualifying points on a 10-4-2-1 scale to its top four finishers.
Don Alberto Stables' homebred Stellar Sound, who heads a three-horse contingent trained by Bob Baffert, will be trying two turns for the first time in what will be her fourth start.

VENETIAN HARBOR
A close second in her debut, a 5 furlong turf sprint at Del Mar Nov. 15, this Kentucky-bred daughter of Munnings blitzed seven rivals on dirt in her next start, a 6 1/2 furlong maiden special weight here on Dec. 29, a race in which she led gate to wire and won geared down by 10 3/4 lengths.
Out of the Street Cry mare Sounds of the City, Venetian Harbor, who was a $110,000 Keeneland September Yearling, has been the even money favorite in both of her starts and should go favored again as she tries winners and two turns for the first time in the Las Virgenes.

STELLAR SOUND
A one half length first-out maiden special weight winner going six furlongs at Del Mar Aug. 18, this grey daughter of Tapit pressed the pace and tired to finish a well beaten fifth in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs Aug. 31.
Most recently third, beaten 4 3/4 lengths in the 6 1/2 furlong Desi Arnaz Stakes Nov. 10, Stellar Sound enters the Las Virgenes a fresh horse trying two turns for the first time.
