Trainer Graham Motion (Main Sequence): “He was awesome. It’s a huge relief. Rajiv said he was still a little antsy in the gate, but I didn’t realize that. He broke well and for one minute I thought he might be a little close. I think every time this horse has run he has improved, his behavior has improved. He was good as gold today in the paddock, which really impressed me. I think he kind of won for fun, to be honest.â€
“I think Rajiv has a pretty good rapport with him. He knows what it takes, and he’s just got some turn of foot. And I think he’s a horse that can overcome whatever. Because he’s got that turn of foot it doesn’t really matter where he is. You don’t have to make excuses for him because he can overcome it.
“I was a little concerned at the top of the stretch because it looked like he kind of asked him and they motored away from him a little bit. But once he got that turn of foot going, he’s gone. There’s not much stopping him.
“Every time he’s run, to me, he’s improved. Every race, knock on wood, he’s come out of it a little better. I just loved the way he behaved today. That was exciting to see him like that.
“I don’t think he was unmanageable but he was becoming anxious at the races, he was very nervous. David suggested gelding him, which I think is what turned this horse around probably. It made a huge difference to him.
“On to Dubai, hopefully. Fingers crossed.â€
Jockey Rajiv Maragh (Main Sequence): “He’s a superstar. I never remember getting that feeling from any other horse. He blows your socks off the way he finishes. He’s a wow horse, definitely.
“He’s a very maneuverable horse. Early in the race, I just wanted to play it like a regular race and let it unfold. By the second turn, I could tell they were going slow and getting bunched up a bit, so on the backstretch I decided any shot that I got to get to the outside I was going to take it. When the opportunity presented itself at the half-mile, five-eighths pole, I just took it, and from there on it was clear sailing.
(On getting mount back) “It’s very special. It just goes to show you what kind of people I’m dealing with from the owners, Flaxman, the trainer Graham Motion and John Velazquez. He rode him in the Breeders’ Cup perfectly and won. He compensated me, which shows what an honorable guy he is. He didn’t have to do that. Everybody involved with this horse all deserve this. Special horse, special people.â€
Trainer Tom Albertrani (Twilight Eclipse): "He ran well. Like I said earlier he had a couple of encounters in his previous races where he got trapped on the inside. Today we got first the run (on Main Sequence) but we still couldn't beat him, but I thought he ran his race and ran huge."
Jockey Javier Castellano (Twilight Eclipse): “I had a perfect trip. I had a target to run at. I wanted to get the jump on Main Sequence but he was much the best. We were second-best today.â€
