Racing fans across the country established a one-day betting record at Del Mar Saturday when they wagered $25,969,128 on the stellar 11-race card highlighted by the $1-million TVG Pacific Classic.
The previous one-day record was $25,126,232 set on August 20, 2016, also a Pacific Classic Day.
The day’s feature event was captured in record fashion by Hronis Racing’s Accelerate, who romped by 12-1/2 lengths in the mile and a quarter Classic. He also paid $2.80 for the win.
Del Mar fans also established a new Early Pick Five carryover mark when the bet sent $785,777 forward to the first race Sunday. That pool is expected to draw some $4-million in action to kick off Sunday’s card.
