Trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel, winner Gold Medal Dancer – “It's very exciting and the mare just ran a huge race. Thanks to Pin Oak (Stud) and my entire staff. It was a team effort and I am thrilled to death. We had a chance to go out and control the pace and Luis did a great job. She went out and controlled the pace. She fought off the champion and she showed a lot of heart. The big mare came through and got her nose down on the wire. It's sure a possibility that we'll be back for the Apple Blossom.”

“We thought we had a chance to get out there and control the race. Luis did a great job. The big mare (Untapable) came to her and we got the better of her today. Of course it was her first race of the year, but our mare got her nose down. It was an exciting race.”

Luis Quinonez, winning jockey of Gold Medal Dancer – “We had the perfect trip. I just tried to get her to relax. She came out of the gates relaxed and I just let her do it. I said wait, wait, wait and when that other horse (Untapable) came to her, she wouldn’t let her by. It was great. (Trainer) Donnie (K. Von Hemel) did a great job getting her ready.”

Steve Asmussen, trainer of beaten favorite Untapable, second – “The track was a little heavy and obviously it was a bit of a concern off the layoff. The main thing is that she comes out of it well. There’s a lot of reasons for her to move forward off this race. It was a concern not being able to get her up here and have a work over the track, but the weather didn’t allow for that. As long as she comes out ok, we’ll be happy with this effort.”

“Obviously we wanted her to win, but this is good starting point. We’ll take her back to the track before we decide what happens next. Even if she goes on to KY, we won’t be looking to go there until first week of April. She does need a little more time to settle in. I noticed that all week.”

John Velazquez, second on beaten favorite Untapable – “She was in perfect postiion. I was happy was happy where I was. Coming down the lane she was a little hesitate to go by the other filly. She put in a good fight for her first start of the year. It was her first time on a wet track, but take nothing from the winner. The winner was a nice horse.”
