Devine Aida looks for turnaround in Pebbles

December 10, 2019

ELMONT, N.Y. -Stronach Stables' Devine Aida looks to return to the winner's circle on Monday in the Columbus Day feature at Belmont Park, the $200,000 Pebbles for 3-year old fillies on the turf.

Making her first start for trainer Christophe Clement and coming off a five-month layoff, Devine Aida gets some class relief and returns to the turf after a fourth-place effort in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks in March followed by a last-place finish in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan on May 15, her last outing under trainer Ramon Morales. Prior to that, Devine Aida was undefeated in two starts on the turf in Florida during the winter, including the Ginger Brew at Gulfstream, winning by a combined 10 lengths.

"Devine Aida came to us a few months ago," said Clement. "She has trained well and she looks well. We're very excited about her and we look forward to running her."

At 8-1 on the morning line, Devine Aida will leave from post 4. Jose Ortiz gets the mount.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Isabella Sings will be making her fourth lifetime start on the Belmont turf, having won her debut last July. Last time out, the chestnut daughter of Eskendereya was second to Strict Compliance in the Grade 3 Boiling Springs going 1 1/8 miles on September 5 at Monmouth Park.

Isabella Sings is 7-2 on the morning line. She will depart from the rail with Hall of Famer John Velazquez aboard.

Hall of Famer Bill Mott will enter multiple graded stakes-placed Lady Zuzu, who looks to return to form in the Pebbles. Lady Zuzu was third in her most recent effort in the Indiana Grand Stakes at one mile on September 9 at Indiana Grand Race Course. Stalking the pace from the inside, the Three Chimneys color-bearer made a bid at the eighth pole but had to settle for show honors.

Lady Zuzu will break from the far outside in stall 8. Joel Rosario will be aboard the dark bay or brown daughter of Dynamformer, 10-1 on the morning line.

The one-mile Pebbles also attracted a trio of runners from the contingent of Chad Brown with Partisan Politics, Light in Paris and Consumer Credit.

Partisan Politics enters the race with two second-place finishes from her last three starts. She was a suffered a narrow loss to Stormy Regatta on August 27 in the Riskaverse at one mile at Saratoga Race Course.

At 5-2, Partisan Politics is favored on the morning line. Regular rider Javier Castellano will be in the irons. The pair will break from post 2.

Making her North American debut is Light in Paris, who also will receive Lasix for the first time. The French-bred filly won last time out on August 7 in a one-mile allowance at Deauville Racecourse in France. Her record for the distance is 1-1-1 from three starts.

Right outside her stablemate in the 3 spot, Light in Paris will have Junior Alvarado aboard. She is 3-1 on the morning line.

Consumer Credit completes the Brown trifecta, entering for owner Brous Stable LLC. The dark bay or brown filly by More Than Ready was a disappointing fifth in her last start going 1 1/8 miles on the turf in the Grade 2 Lake Placid on August 4 at Saratoga..

At 4-1 on the morning line, Consumer Credit will break from post position 5 with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the saddle.

Rounding out the field are Greywalls, most recently fifth in the Riskaverse, and My Cara Mia, winner of an allowance on September 15 at Parx.
