Elisabeth Jerkens, wife of Hall of Famer H. Allen Jerkens, dies at 86

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Elisabeth Jerkens, a longtime thoroughbred owner and breeder who was married to Hall of Fame trainer H. Allen Jerkens since 1987, died this morning in South Florida at the age of 86.

The cause of death was heart failure.

Jerkens campaigned her horses as Hardwicke Stables. Among her homebreds were the stakes winning filly Becky's Flute, and multiple stakes winner Spite the Devil, a son of Devil His Due, who was trained by her husband and won nearly $4 million.

Her most recent winner was Horsens, who won a maiden race at Gulfstream Park on May 24.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
