Ian Wilkes, winning trainer of Free as a Bird (No. 3): "She broke a little further back than I thought. She was always traveling; I thought it would be a good test for her. I think she's very comfortable with horses in front of her. She finished strong. The filly's been doing extremely well. This year, she's stepped her game up. She's matured, she's a 5-year-old, and just getting a little better. You learn something every time you run. At least she's not one-dimensional and has to be close. She can close from out of it. It just depends on the pace. We'll probably look next to the 5 ½-furlong [Smart n' Fancy, August 25]."
