Banishing Joins the Cast for the G1 Pegasus World Cup

Jan 7 - Banishing (Lawrence P. Roman and trainer David Jacobson) joins the list of invitees for the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 24 at Gulfstream Park.

A reserve invitee originally, the 6-year-old Ghostzapper gelding is a Grade 1 stakes-placed multiple graded-stakes winner with more than $1.6 million in earnings.

KAS Stables' Bishops Bay, the winner of the Dec. 6 Cigar Mile (G2) at Aqueduct, has been removed from list of invitees to the Jan. 24 headliner at the request of his connections. His trainer Brad Cox is still represented by two others expected to run - WinStar Farm LLC, CHC Inc. and Cold Press Racing's Tappan Street, the 2025 Curlin Florida Derby (G1) winner who recently returned to action with an optional claiming allowance win at Gulfstream, and Juddmonte's Disco Time, an undefeated 4-year-old son of Not This Time who captured his fifth consecutive victory without defeat in the Nov. 8 Dwyer at Aqueduct..

Sharaf Mohamad Alhariri and Lucky Seven Stable's Rattle N Roll, a Kenny McPeek-trained 7-year-old with more than $3 million in earnings, and Terry L. Stephens' Chunk of Gold, the Ethan West-trained 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) starter who fell a half-length short of victory in the Clark (G2) last time out at Churchill Downs, have also been removed from Pegasus World Cup consideration.

C2 Racing Stable LLC, Gary Barber, and La Milagrosa Stables LLC's White Abarrio is scheduled to make a title defense in the Pegasus World Cup, which he won by 6 ½ lengths in 2025. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. will also saddle Daniel Alonso's Skippylongstocking, a multiple graded-stakes winner who captured the Dec.20 Harlan's Holiday (G3) at Gulfstream, for a Pegasus World Cup run.

SF Racing LLC and partners' Goal Oriented, a 4-year-old son of Not This Time who won the Dec. 28 Malibu (G1) at Santa Anita, will make a bid to become Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert's unprecedented fourth Pegasus World Cup winner. Baffert has visited the Gulfstream Park winner's circle with Juddmonte's Arrogate, who won the 2017 running by 4 ¾ lengths, HRH Prince Faisal bin Khaled's Mucho Gusto, who scored by 4 ½ lengths in 2020, and SF Racing LLC and partners' National Treasure, who held on win by a neck in 2024.

St. Elias Stable's Captain Cook, Hronis Racing LLC's Full Serrano, Godolphin's Poster, and Set-Hut LLC's Touchuponastar are also Pegasus World Cup bound.

The $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) will also be featured on the Jan. 24 program at Gulfstream. Invitees My Way Racing LLC's El Potente and Live Oak Plantation's Win for the Money will not run.

In their place, Alice Bamford and Michael Tabor's Astronomer and Magic Cap Stables' Fort Washington will enter the starting gate for the running of the 1 1/8-mile turf feature. Simon Callaghan-trained Astronomer finished his 2025 campaign with back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Seabiscuit (G2) and the San Gabriel (G3) at Santa Anita. Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey saddled Fort Washington for a victory in the 2025 Arlington Million (G1) at Colonial Downs.

McGaughey is also represented on the Pegasus World Cup Turf invitation list by West Point Thoroughbreds and Jimmy Kahig LLC's Cugino, a 5-year-old graded stakes-winning on of Twirling Candy who finished second in the Dec. 20 Fort Lauderdale (G2) at Gulfstream.

Amerman Racing LLC's Test Score is prominent on the list of nominations for the Pegasus World Cup Turf. Trainer Graham Motion saddled the son of Lookin' At Lucky for a victory in the Belmont Derby (G1) at Saratoga, as well as the Twilight Derby (G2)a t Santa Anita, last season.

White Abarrio Invited to Defend Title in G1 Pegasus World Cup

Dec 31 - White Abarrio (C2 Racing Stable LLC, La Milagrosa Stable LLC and Gary Barber), who captured the 2025 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), is prominent among the list of invitees for the 10th running of the $3 million stakes scheduled Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 24.

The Pegasus World Cup Invitational, a 1 1/8-mile stakes for 4-year-olds and up, will headline a program with 10 stakes, seven graded, including the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) and the $500,000 Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational (G2).

Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained White Abarrio, the winner of the $1 million Curlin Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park in 2022 and the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita, rolled to a 6 ¼-length victory in the 2025 Pegasus World Cup. The son of Race Day, who has earned $7.1 million, has not raced since finishing fourth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Saratoga Aug. 31.

Joseph-trained Skippylongstocking, who captured the Harlan's Holiday (G3) Dec. 20 at Gulfstream Park, is also on the Pegasus World Cup invitation list. Daniel Alonso's son of Exaggerator, who has earned $3.775 million in purses, is coming off a victory in the Dec. 20 Harlan's Holiday (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert is represented on the Pegasus World Cup invitation list by Goal Oriented, who won Sunday's Malibu (G1) at Santa Anita. The son of Not This Time is owned by SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC and partners.

Baffert has saddled an unprecedented three winners of the Pegasus World Cup. The Hall of Fame trainer visited the Gulfstream Park winner's circle with Juddmonte's Arrogate, who won the inaugural 2017 running by 4 ¾ lengths; HRH Prince Faisal bin Khaled's Mucho Gusto, who scored by 4 ½ lengths in 2020; and SF Racing LLC and partners' National Treasure, who held on win by a neck in 2024.

Trainer Brad Cox, who saddled Knicks Go for a 2 ¼-length front-running victory in the 2021 Pegasus World Cup, is represented by Tappan Street, Disco Time and Bishops Bay on the invitation list for the 2026 renewal.

WinStar Farm LLC, CHC Inc., Cold Press Racing and Qatar Racing's Tappan Street captured the $1 million Curlin Florida Derby (G1) last March at Gulfstream. The son of Into Mischief, who had been sidelined since his Florida Derby triumph, returned with an optional claiming allowance victory at Gulfstream Dec. 19.

Disco Time, a Juddmonte homebred son of Not This Time, is undefeated in five career starts, including the Lecomte (G3) at Fair Grounds last January. Sidelined following the Lecomte for eight months, Disco Time came back to win the St. Louis Derby at Fairmont Park and the Dwyer at Aqueduct.

KAS Stables' Bishops Bay, a son of Uncle Mo who has won nine of 13 career starts, is coming off victories in the Forty Niner (G3) and the Cigar Mile (G2) at Aqueduct.

Hall of Fame Trainer Todd Pletcher, who saddled Life Is Good for a 3 ¼-length triumph over a defending Knicks Go in the 2022 Pegasus World Cup, is represented on the 2026 Pegasus World Cup invitation list by St. Elias Stable's Captain Cook. The son of Practical Joke is coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) at Saratoga and the Perryville (G3) at Keeneland.

Sharif Mohammad Alhariri and Lucky Seven Stable's Rattle N Roll, a Grade 1-stakes winner with $3.6 million in earnings, is invited to seek his eighth graded-stakes victory in the Pegasus World Cup. The battle-tested son of Connect is trained by Kenny McPeek.

Terry L. Stephen's Chunk of Gold, a 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) starter coming off a close-up third in the Clark (G2) at Churchill Downs, represents trainer Ethan West on the 2026 Pegasus World Cup invitational list. The son of Preservationist earned his way into the Kentucky Derby with runner-up finishes in the Risen Star (G2) and Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds. Chunk of Gold captured the West Virginia Derby (G3) at Mountaineer Park in August.

Godolphin's Poster, who came up a head short after a stretch-long battle with Skippylongstocking in the Harlan's Holiday, represents Eoin Harty on the Pegasus World Cup invitation list. The son of Munnings captured the Remsen (G2) at the 1 1/8-mile distance to complete a 2-year-old campaign. He was knocked off the 2004 Kentucky Derby trail by injury but came back strong from an eight-month layoff to win a Churchill Downs allowance prior to turning in a sharp performance in the Harlan's Holiday.

Hronis Racing LLC's Full Serrano, the 2024 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) winner at Del Mar, is also prominent on the list of invitees for the Pegasus World Cup. The John Sadler-trained gelding is coming off a fifth-place finish in the 2025 Breeders' Cup Mile following a very rough trip.

Set-Hut LLC's Touchuponastar, a graded-stakes winner with $1.6 million in earnings, is invited to seek his 20th career victory in the Pegasus World Cup. Set-Hut LLC is co-owned and managed by former NFL quarterback Jake Delhomme, whose brother, Jeff, trains the Louisiana-bred gelding.
