Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile is on tap for Santa Anita in Arcadia, California this Saturday, March 7. Horses four years old and upward will be after the winner's share of the $400,000 purse when they go one mile on Santa Anita's turf track.

2015 Frank E. Kilroe Mile Race Favorite Entries

Winning Prize - multiple Grade 1 winner and Argentinean bred colt had eight starts at home with five wins and a second place finish including two straight wins (the Grade 1 Joaquin S. de Anchorena in December being the last). He has just seven starts since including an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile October 5 at Keeneland, a decent third in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park November 29, a terrific win in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes February and a great win in the 2014 Frank E. Kilroe Mile in gate-to-wire fashion. Winning Prize was last seen running sixth in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes at Woodbine back in August. He has won two of his last four starts but sixth place finishes in his last two. He hits the track for the first time in seven months Saturday - Santa Anita's leading rider Rafael Bejarano has the mount on the defending champ from post 3.

Za Approval - had a win, a second and a third place finish in six starts last year and finished fourth in his first start this year - in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream January 10. Last time out was a respectable second in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes here January 31. He was second in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar November 28 which followed a win in the minor Real Courage Stakes at Belmont Park September 7 and the third in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes. Za Approval was very good in 2013 - a second behind Wise Dan in the Breeders' Cup Mile, wins in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes, Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes and Grade 3 Appleton Stakes and he had two good runner-up finishes in Grade 1 races as well - the Shoemaker Mile and the Woodbine Mile. Za Approval looks as though he is slowly rounding back into the 2013 form that saw him as one of the most impressive horses on the planet. He is 0-for-his-last-8 in graded stakes action but will have the legend Mike Smith aboard from post 10.

Summer Front - Seven time stakes winner and Christophe Clement trainee is coming off an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Mile after three straight seconds - in the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes in July, in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita June 14 and in the Grade 3 Fort Marcy Stakes at Belmont Park May 3. He also had a terrific win in the Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes January 11 and a good second to Silentio in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park November 29, 2013. Summer Front has placed in three of his last four starts, and looks for his first win since January, 2014 with Victor Espinoza aboard from gate 8.

Silentio - Gary Mandella trainee enters this weekend on the heels of a fourteenth place finish in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint which followed three straight third place finishes - the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes August 24 at Del Mar, the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile in this track in June and the Grade 3 American Stakes also here in May. Silentio was fifth in this race last year and fourth in 2014 and hopes to better that this weekend. He has placed in six of his last eight starts overall with one win (the 2013 Grade 2 Citation Handicap) and hopes to rebound from an ugly effort last time out. Flavien Prat gets the mount from post 6.

Mr. Commons - last year's fourth place finisher is coming off a sixth in the minor Clocker's Corner Stakes here January 25, a ninth in the Grade 3 San Pasqual Stakes in January and a fourth in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar November 28. This after consecutive seconds - in the Grade 2 City of Hope Stakes at Santa Anita October 4 and in an Allowance in October at Del Mar. Mr. Commons hasn't posted victory since February 2012 and has failed to place in his last three starts overall. Martin Garcia ride from gate 5.

Ring Weekend - won the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes in September and the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes in October before a sixth last time out in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby here in October. He also won the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby in March of last year. Ring Weekend has four wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 13 career starts and has two wins and a second in his last four starts overall. He looks for a bounce back effort in his first start in five months - from post 10 with Drayden Van Dyke in the saddle.

Talco - French bred John Sadler trained colt made his North American debut August 31 and finished a decent third in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby here and followed that with a fifth in the Grade 2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita October 31. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here after a fifth in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile on this track December 26 and an OK third in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar November 29. Before shipping he placed in five of six starts at home - two wins, two seconds and a third place finish - a second in his stakes debut at Deauville July 2. Talco will have Santiago Gonzalez in the irons from the rail as he looks for his first North American score.

Home Run Kitten - David Hofmans pupil broke maiden in his second career start. His stakes debut resulted in a disappointing fifth - in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes February 8, 2014 but he has placed in six of eight stakes starts since. Last time out was an OK third in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes on this track after a good second in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile here December 26, a disappointing eleventh in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint and a career best effort - a win in the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes on this track September 26. He has 12 career starts with four wins, two seconds and three thirds and has three wins, a second and a third in his last seven starts overall. Gary Stevens gets the mount from post 9 hoping to keep the upward trend going.

Holy Lute - James Cassidy pupil won the minor El Cajon Stakes in August, 2013 and went on to a third in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby in October of 2013. After that was a tenth in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Mile and an eleventh in the Grade 1 Malibu Mile. He enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score here February 12, a second in a similar race on this track in January and a fourth, a second and a third respectively in Allowance Optional Claiming races in California. He will be after his first graded stakes score and enters in so-so form with Tyler Baze in the reins from gate 4.

Mega Heat - finished seventh in this race last year and has been up and down since. He enters on a two race win streak - both Allowance Optional Claiming races this past winter and he had a fourth and a second during the summer in minor stakes action on this track. Mega Heat makes just his second graded stakes start Saturday having posted 10 wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 22 career starts. He enters in good form with Corey Nakatani getting the call from post 7.

Dimension - British bred Dimension posted a win at 10-1 odds in last year`s Play the King Stakes August 25 and has been OK since. Last time out was a disappointing twelfth in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint here after a good win in the minor Kentucky Downs Turf Dash September 24, a third in the 2014 Grade 3 Play the King Stakes, an ugly ninth in the Grade 2 Connaught Cup at Woodbine and a second in the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland in April. He had five starts last year with a win, a second and a third place finish and has won five of 25 starts. Dimension hopes for a rebound performance this week and will leave from post 12 with Joe Talamo aboard.

Hay Dude - British bred Philip D'Amato trained gelding has 16 career starts with three wins, four seconds and four third place finishes. He finished sixth in the Group 3 Prix Perth in November, 2013 before shipping and has placed in three of four North American starts - three straight ahead of this race. Last time out was a second in the minor Clocker's Corner Stakes January 25 after another second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in January - both results on this track. He looks for his first stakes score Saturday from post 2 with Kent Desormeaux aboard.
