2016 Holy Bull Stakes Race Preview

Mohaymen - Kiaran McLaughlin trained colt finished second (albeit by a wide margin) in Eclipse Awards voting for two year old males. He hasn't been touched yet in his career - three starts and three wins. Last time out his win came in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes November 28 after wins in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes November 4 and a dominant maiden score at first asking. Mohaymen is firmly on the Kentucky Derby radar and is expected to be the one to catch Saturday - from gate 2 with Junior Alvarado guiding him. Of note he produced a bullet five furlong work January 21 in preparation for this race.

Greenpointcrusader - has four career starts for trainer Dominick Schettino with two wins and a second place finish. He was last seen running a disappointing seventh as favorite in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile which followed an impressive 4 1/2 length win in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park October 3, a maiden score in his second career start and a second in his debut. Greenpointcrusader looked terrific before his seventh last time out and hopes to bounce back - from post 5 with John Velazquez aboard the 122 pound highweight.

Conquest Big E - Mark Casse trained colt has four career starts with two wins and a second place finish. Last time out was one of those wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming by two lengths at Churchill Downs November 28 which followed a somewhat disappointing eighth right behind Greenpointcrusader in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a maiden score in his second career start - at Keeneland in October. Conquest Big E will be after his first stakes win Saturday and arrives in OK form and having recorded bullet works in two of his last four. Mike Smith has been tabbed to ride from gate 4.

Fellowship - Stanly Gold trained colt has eight career starts already with two wins and three third place finishes. He makes his graded stakes debut off a disappointing fifth in the minor Mucho Macho Man Stakes here January 2, consecutive runner-up finishes in minor stakes action - the Smooth Air Stakes November 28 and the Juvenile Sprint Stakes November 7 and a nice minor stakes win - the Florida Sire In Reality Stakes on this track October 3. Fellowship has been a tad tough to figure out ahead of this week. He hopes to make a huge statement Saturday from post 3 with Jose Caraballo in the saddle.

Perfect Saint - Dale Romans trained colt has a win and a third place finish in five career starts. He hasn't been great lately - a seventh last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track January 9 followed a seventh in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs November 28. He did break maiden before that in his third career start but has struggled since. Jockey Corey Lanerie has been tabbed with changing Perfect Saint's fortunes around - from the rail.

Frontier Ranger - Ronald Pellegrini trained gelding has a win, a second and a third place finish in five career starts. Last time out was a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming January 9 after a second in a similar race December 13 - both results coming on this track. He also posted a tenth place finish three starts back in his only stakes action to date - the minor Pulpit Stakes at Gulfstream Park West November 29. Frontier Ranger has been just OK so far in his career and will need a special effort to win this one. Edgard Zayas gets the call from the outside gate 6.
