Defending runner-up in this race has 22 career starts for trainer Peter Eurton with 10 wins (5 graded stakes), three seconds and four third place finishes. He enters off a good win in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita May 28 after an OK third after tiring in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes there March 25, a nice win with a 100 Beyer Speed Figure in the minor California Cup Turf Classic at Santa Anita in January, a second in the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar in November, a decent fifth in the Breeders' Cup Turf November 5 and a nice two race win streak - the G2 John Henry Turf Championship October 2 and the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20. Before that was a good second in the 2016 Eddie Read Stakes, an OK third in the minor Crystal Waters Stakes at Santa Anita last June 11 and 10 months away from the track. He also had and a nice three race win streak in 2015 - in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes and an Allowance Optional Claiming. Ashleyluvssugar has placed in 12 of his last 14 starts and has won two of his last three starts overall - good form ahead of this weekend. Gary Stevens will be in the saddle of the morning line favorite from gate 6.
Has just four wins, four seconds and two third place finishes in 27 career starts for trainer Richard Baltas. Last time out was a sixth in the G3 American Stakes at Santa Anita July 4 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score there May 14 and consecutive runner-up finishes in similar races on that track earlier this year. He failed to place in his previous three starts. Kenjisstorm has three graded stakes starts in early 2016 - a fourth in the G3 San Francisco Mile at Golden Gate April 30 followed a seventh in the G3 San Juan Capistrano Stakes April 10 and a fifth in the G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile in March. He hopes to hit the board in graded stakes company for the first time in his sixth try when he leaves from post 3 with Rafael Bejarano in the irons of the morning line second choice.

Irish bred Phil D'Amato trained gelding has 21 career starts with five wins, five seconds and three third place finishes. Last time out was a fifth in the G3 American Stakes at Santa Anita July 4 which followed a fourth in the G2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar November 26, a disappointing eighth in the minor Damascus Stakes at Santa Anita November 4, an OK third in the G3 Eddie D Stakes on that track September 30, a sixth in the minor Green Flash Stakes at Del Mar August 12 and a three-race win streak - the best of which coming in the minor Siren Lure Stakes at Santa Anita last June. Hunt chases his first graded stakes score Saturday having failed to place in three of his last four starts. Flavien Prat will be in the irons hoping to change Hunt's fortunes around from gate 2.

Neil French trained gelding has four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 20 career starts. He enters on the heels of two straight third place finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races - one coming on this track in November. Before that was a seventh in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship Stakes at Santa Anita in October, a fifth in the G3 Del Mar Handicap in October, an Allowance Optional Claiming score here last July and off-the-board finishes in two graded stakes races. Wanstead Gardens will try to hit the board in graded stakes action for the first time in his fifth try when he leaves from gate 4 with Tyler Baze guiding him.
Mr. Roary 10-1
George Papaprodromou trained gelding has three wins, two seconds and a third-place finish in 15 career starts. He arrives off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita June 16 which followed eight months away, an eighth in the G2 Twilight Derby at Santa Anita in November, another Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita in October, a fourteenth in the G2 Del Mar Derby in September and a seventh in the G3 La Jolla Handicap here in August. Mr. Roary hasn't been all that impressive in stakes action but will be out to make a statement Saturday from the rail. Santiago Gonzalez will be in the saddle.
Abbey Vale 12-1
Irish bred Doug O'Neill trained gelding has 28 career starts with five wins, six seconds and three third place finishes. He has placed in three straight races ahead of this weekend - a second last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Santa Anita July 2 followed two straight wins - a Claiming at Santa Anita May 26 and a Waiver Claiming on that track March 30. He has three graded stakes starts with a third in the 2015 G3 Last Tycoon Stakes being the best (he finished ninth in the other two). Abbey Vale has been good against lesser competition and hopes it finally translates in stakes action. Jockey Kyle Frey will try to accomplish that from the outside post 7.

Canada's 2013 Horse of the Year and Champion 3 Year Old Colt, Phil D'Amato trained multiple graded stakes winner has been up and down lately - a seventh last time out in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita May 28 followed an OK third in an Allowance Optional Claiming there April 23, a fifth in the G3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct in November, a disappointing seventh in the G3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland October 20, a third in the G3 Durham Cup at Woodbine September 24, another third in the G3 Sky Classic Stakes here August 21 and a good win in the G2 Nijinsky Stakes at Woodbine July 24 - a race that he also won in 2014. Up With the Birds has placed in just one of his last four starts overall, he looks to snap a six-race win streak and enters in less-than-spectacular form. Jamie Theriot will be in the saddle from post 5.
