2017 Coaching Club American Oaks Entries at Saratoga Race Course

Abel Tasman 8-5

The clear-cut leader of the Three-Year-Old Division with the absence of Unique Bella will race for the ninth time for trainer Bob Baffert having won five times and posted two second place finishes in her career already. Last time out was a nice win in the G1 Acorn Stakes with career and field-best BRIS Speed rating of 103 at Belmont Park June 10. It followed a good last-to-first 1 1/4 length win with a tidy 92 Beyer Speed Figure in the $1 million G1 Kentucky Oaks May 5 and another win in her stakes debut - the G1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos December 10. Before that were two straight respectable second place finishes - the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 8 and behind the terrific Unique Bella in the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes March 4. Abel Tasman has five wins and two runner-up finishes in her last seven starts overall, she hopes for a third straight G1 score Sunday and will have Mike Smith in the saddle of the morning line favorite from gate 2.

Salty 5-2

Will race for just the sixth time for trainer Mark Casse having posted two wins and two second-place finishes so far. She broke maiden by 2 1/2 lengths March 5 at Gulfstream and has since recorded a nice win by 4 1/4 lengths in the G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks April 1, a fifth in the Kentucky Oaks May 5 and a respectable runner-up finish last time out behind Abel Tasman in the G1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park June 10. Salty has been competitive so far in her career, will be out to flip the script on Able Tasman and will chase a second graded stakes score Sunday. Joel Rosario gets the call on the second betting choice from the outside post 7.

Before that was a sixth in the G3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay March 11, a decent second in the G2 Golden Rod Stakes at Churchill Downs and an OK fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Daddys Lil Darling has been in every race lately but hopes to snap a seven-race losing streak Sunday with Julien Leparoux in the saddle of the morning line third choice from post 3.
