ARCADIA, Calif. - Santa Anita's 2011 Autumn Meeting, which begins Sept. 30, will offer 13 graded stakes, including six Grade I events which will be run as part of Santa Anita's Breeders' Cup prep program that encompasses the first two weekends of the 24-day race meeting.
The Breeders' Cup prep race season is relatively short. It only lasts about 23 days, but what it lacks in long term focus it gains in high intensity. The concentration of high class talent will mirror in some ways the Breeders' Cup itself, given that we now have 15 Breeders' Cup races scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday Nov. 5 at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Every Saturday this Fall at Belmont Park, we're posting free handicapping picks for the entire day's races. The day will close with their first ever Guaranteed $300,000 Late Pick 4. Get a rebate on your wagers, win or lose, at OffTrackBetting.com.
Belmont Stakes winner Ruler On Ice is the 5-2 morning line favorite in horse betting odds for Saturday's $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. He leads a field of nine for the big race at Parx Racing which has an estimated post time of 5:45 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
HORSE OF THE YEAR RACE HEATS UP AS BREEDERS' CUP NEARS - With the 28th Breeders' Cup less than seven weeks away, the Horse of the Year title is as wide open as when the year started. With several important preps looming over the next month, including a pair of "Win and You're In" races for the Breeders' Cup Classic, a list of accomplished runners will be plotting their paths towards Churchill Downs November 4 and 5.
FLORENCE, KY., - The 2011 WinStar Kentucky Cup Day of Champions at Turfway Park. The field for the feature race, the $200,000 WinStar Kentucky Cup (G2) is taking shape, although decisions regarding several nominees remain up in the air. Among those already likely to run is 7-year-old Strike Impact, third in the Firecracker Handicap (G2) on the turf at Churchill Downs two races back and second, beaten a neck, in the West Virginia Speakers Cup Handicap in his last start.
ELMONT, N.Y. - Trapped behind a wall of horses in midstretch, Winter Memories unleashed a breathtaking last-to-first run on the far outside through the final yards to nab Theyskens' Theory at the wire in Saturday's Grade 1, $250,000 Garden City at Belmont Park.
FLORENCE, Ky., - The five stakes races that comprise the WinStar Kentucky Cup Day of Champions series at Turfway Park closed Thursday with a combined 161 nominations. The five races are part of a 12-race card set for Sat., Sept. 24. All five are preps for the $25.5 million Breeders' Cup World Championships in November. Post time is 1:10 p.m., returning that Saturday to the traditional afternoon post.
An automatic spot in the Breeders' Cup Mile is on the line this Sunday as 12 horses will look to win the $1 million Woodbine Mile at Woodbine Race Course in Toronto. Courageous Cat is the 3-1 morning line horse betting favorite in the field of 12.
Every Saturday this Fall at Belmont Park, the day will close with their first ever Guaranteed $300,000 Late Pick 4. The last four races usually begin with the seventh race at Belmont. If the Pick 4 pool isn't large enough to meet the $300,000 guarantee, NYRA will supplement the remaining money for the pool.
