French Quarter Seeks Breakthrough in Saturday’s Trinniberg Zayas, Rios Closing in on Milestones; Gaffalione Wins Four

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL –The 20-cent Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot rose to $80,343.55 for Friday’s twilight program at Gulfstream Park when the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Thursday.

Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $936.30.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket sold, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for eight straight programs after being hit for a $436,076.38 on July 27.

Friday’s six-race Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9 on a program that is set for a 2:15 p.m. start.

French Quarter Seeks Breakthrough in Saturday’s Trinniberg

Domino Enterprises’ French Quarter is entered in Saturday’s $50,000 Trinniberg Handicap at Gulfstream Park on a quest for a breakthrough victory in the seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up.

The 6-year-old gelding has been winless in six starts since being claimed for $62,500 out of a May 10 optional claiming allowance at Gulfstream Park. The son of Shakespeare finished second four times and third twice since joining trainer David Fawkes and could well have come through with a couple of wins under more ideal circumstances.

In his most recent start July 22, French Quarter got involved in a speed duel and was carried out wide in the stretch before dropping a half-length decision to a late closer. In his previous start, he was forced to race wide June 24 after having to be steadied sharply and carried wide on the turn June – settling for a hard-luck second each time.

“He always gives his all. He’s a neat horse. It’s just unfortunate he got caught in a duel on the front end and before that he got checked really bad into the turn and lost his chances there,” Fawkes said. “He’s a little bit of a hard-luck horse.”

Edgard Zayas is slated to ride French Quarter for the first time Saturday.

Arindel’s Richard the Great, who rallied past French Quarter last time out, is scheduled to return in the Trinniberg for trainer Stanley Gold and jockey Emisael Jaramillo.

Jose Noda-Fernandez’s Very Very Stella, who finished third in the Smile Sprint (G3) three starts back and second most recently in the Coast Is Clear Handicap last time out, is also prominent among the entrants.

Indian Guide, Wild Mongolia, Harryhee, Dream Saturday, Scam and Ranger in Paradise round out the field.

Zayas, Rios Close in on Milestones; Gaffalione Wins Four

Jockeys Edgard Zayas and Jesus Rios are closing in on career milestones at Gulfstream Park. Zayas is two wins away from No. 1000 after riding back to back winners on Thursday’s card, scoring aboard Mr. French ($7.80) in the sixth and World of Trouble ($5.80) in the seventh. Rios, who was idle Thursday, is two wins away from Career No. 2000.

Zayas is named on five horses on Friday’s nine-race program. Rios also has five scheduled mounts.

Leading rider Tyler Gaffalione added four more wins Thursday, scoring aboard Sipmychardonnaynae ($8.60) in the third, Our Precious ($4.60) in the eighth, Sweet Tooth Haven ($6.80) in the ninth and Dance Around ($2.80) in the 10th. Gaffalione upped his nation-leading win total to 199.
