Breeders' Cup Press release by Ren Carothers

#1 Lady Hollywood (GB) 15-1 ML

Breeder: D & S L Tanker Transport Ltd

Owner: AMO Racing USA LLC

Trainer: Alice Haynes

Jockey: Umberto Rispoli

She has established a solid four-for-seven record and exits a victory in the Gr3 Prix d'Arenberg Longchamp. She's a first crop daughter of Havana Grey (GB), who won the Gr1 Flying Five Stakes. Her dam, Dubai Legend (GB), is by a two-time champion sprinter in Cadeaux Genereux (GB), and her female family includes G1 winners Where or When (IRE), Air De Rien, and The Groom is Red.

#2 Love Reigns (IRE) 4-1 ML

Breeder: Patrick Grogan

Owner: Stonestreet Stables LLC

Trainer: Wesley Ward

Jockey: Irad Ortiz, Jr.

Should Love Reigns (IRE) prove aptly named in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, she would be extending the already impressive record of her conditioner, Wesley Ward, who won this race in 2021 with Twilight Gleaming, 2020 with Golden Pal, and 2019 with Four Wheel Drive. This filly is two-for-three, with her lone loss a fourth in the Gr2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She returned to United States and reestablished herself as a force with which to be reckoned, scoring the Bolton Landing by 2-1/2 lengths over Danse Macabre, who next won the Untapable Stakes ahead of a third-place finish in the G3 Matron, which was won by fellow entrant American Apple.

Love Reigns is by 2017's Champion two-year-old male in Europe, U S Navy Flag, and out of the Pivotal (GB) mare Humble and Proud, making her a half-sister to Glorious Empire, who won the G1 Sword Dancer.

#3 Private Creed 12-1 ML

Breeder: Sierra Farm

Owner: Mike McCarty

Trainer: Steve Asmussen

Jockey: Joel Rosario

Private Creed has won three-of-four starts, the last two with the addition of blinkers. He came from off the pace to score the "Win and You're In" Indian Summer Stakes at Keeneland, with Mo Stash and No Nay Hudson completing the trifecta. The was clock stopped in stakes-record time of 1:02.30 over the firm turf course. It was the colt's second stakes victory, as he had previously won the Juvenile Sprint at Kentucky Downs off a third-place finish to Oxymore and No Nay Hudson in the Skidmore.

Private Creed is by G1 winner Jimmy Creed (Malibu) and out of South Andros, a stakes winning daughter of Sky Mesa. Jimmy Creed will also be represented by Casa Creed in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint after the Bill Mott trainee won not just one, but two Challenge Series races.

#4 Dramatised (IRE) 15-1 ML

Breeder: Branton Court Stud

Owner: Clipper Logistics

Trainer: Karl Burke

Jockey: Ryan Moore

Dramatised (IRE) has the distinction of being the winning filly of the Gr2 Queen Mary in which both The Platinum Queen (IRE) and Love Reigns (IRE) suffered their only career loss, and Manhattan Jungle (IRE) incurred her first after having won the first three starts of her career. Dramatised is in off a fifth-placed finish in the Gr2 Lowther Stakes to Swingalong (IRE), who next ran fourth in the Gr1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, four lengths back of Lezoo (GB). As for the genetics, Dramatised is a daughter of Showcasing (GB) and out Katie's Diamond (FR), a stakes winning daughter of Gr1 Prix Jean Prat victor Turtle Bowl (IRE).

#5 Mischief Magic (IRE) 12-1 ML

Breeder: Godolphin

Owner: Godolphin

Trainer: Charles Appleby

Jockey: William Buick

Charlie Appleby will send out Gr3 winner Mischief Magic (IRE), who had collected a natural hat-trick before a fourth-place finish, four lengths off No Nay Never's Blackbeard (IRE), in the Gr1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes. Mischief Magic is by Australian champion sprinter and influential sire, Exceed and Excel, and out of Veil of Silence (IRE) by Elusive Quality, making him a full brother to Gr3 winner Sound and Silence (Prix Eclipse). Veil of Silence is a half-sister to Ibn Khaldun, winner of the Gr1 Racing Post

Trophy. The second dam is Gossamer (GB), by Sadler's Wells and out of Gr1 Prix de la Foret winner Brocade. Gossamer not only won the Gr1 Irish One Thousand Guineas and Fillies' Mile, but is a full-sister to European Horse of the Year Barathea (IRE) who set a new course record winning the 1994 Breeders' Cup Mile. Another member of the family, Corretta (IRE) was 2nd in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 1999.

#6 Persian Force (IRE) 15-1 ML

Breeder: Tom Lacy

Owner: AMO Racing USA LLC

Trainer: Richard Hannon

Jockey: Lanfranco Dettori

Also exiting the Middle Park, having finished third, 3-1/4 lengths off Blackbeard, is Persian Force (IRE), who has never finished off the board in all seven career starts. He is by Mehmas (IRE) and out of the Lope de Vega (IRE) mare Vida Amorosa (IRE), whose female family is responsible for producing 1995's champion two-year-old in Ireland - and champion sire - Danehill Dancer (IRE). Before the Middle Park, Persian Force had finished a 1/2 length off Blackbeard in the Darley Prix Morny - in which Persian Force was actually favored - and that was after a runner-up placing to another son of No Nay Never, Little Big Bear, in the Gr1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes. Persian Force had previously won the Gr2 July Stakes at Newmarket.

#7 Oxymore 8-1 ML

Breeder: Philip Robertson

Owner: Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC, Morris Bailey, William Rucker

Trainer: Chad Brown

Jockey: Jose Ortiz

He's two-for-three, having suffered his first defeat in the Nownownow, which was won by Webslinger (entered in the Juvenile Turf). Oxymore had gone into the Nownownow off a determined win in the Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga, beating No Nay Hudson and the eventual winner of the Indian Summer, Private Creed. The Nownownow was Oxymore's first time going a mile and he had been pre-entered with first preference in the Juvenile Turf itself, so it is quiet interesting to see connections change course and opt to go here.

That typed, the pedigree has a balance of speed and distance, so options were certainly open. He's a son of Astern (AUS), the highest-rated sprinter sired by Medaglia d'Oro, and out of Rainbow Dreams by a hefty source of stamina in Empire Maker. Rainbow Dreams is a full-sister to Imperial Council, who was second in the G2 Peter Pan and G3 Gotham.

#8 American Apple 20-1 ML

Breeder: KatieRich Farms

Owner: KatieRich Farms

Trainer: Daniel Leitch

Jockey: Gerardo Corrales

The aforementioned 2019 winner of the Juvenile Turf Sprint, Four Wheel Drive, is a son of American Pharoah, and the Coolmore stallion is represented in this edition by American Apple. Her Clever Trick dam, Miss Mary Apples, was second in the G2 Schuylerville and went on to produce stakes winners Dr. Diamonds Prize and Miss Red Delicious.. She may have just two wins from five starts, but those victories were her last two and both turf sprints, the last out being the G3 Matron at Belmont at the Big A.

#9 Sharp Aza Tack 15- ML

Breeder: Joe and Emily Cowles

Owner: R3 Racing LLC

Trainer: Doug O'Neill

Jockey: Tyler Gaffalione

Sharp Aza Tack is two-for-three, winning the Tyro Stakes at 5 furlongs on the grass by 7-1/4 lengths before a runner up finish to Private Creed in the Juvenile Sprint. The colt is a first crop representative of Three Chimneys' Sharp Azteca. While he was a G1 winner on dirt (and 2nd in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile), he is by Freud, a full brother to 2000's Cartier Horse of the Year, Giant's Causeway. Sharp Aza Tack is out of the Bernardini mare, Que Chulo, whose own dam, Que Piensa Cat (ARG) won the Gr1 Eliseo Ramirez.

#10 Tyler's Tribe 15-1 ML

Breeder: Clifton Farm and Derke Merkler

Owner: Timothy Martin and Thomas Lepic

Trainer: Timothy Martin

Jockey: Kylee Jordan

Tyler's Tribe is also a son of Sharp Azteca, which bodes well for this colt trying the grass for the first time as doest he fact that his second dam is by Elusive Quality, whose wins include the Jaipur and Poker Stakes. Tyler's Tribe is five-for-five in his career and has blitzed the competition from the jump in every start, all by open lengths, and by double digits on two occasions.

#11 Speed Boat Beach 6-1 ML

Breeder: Caperlane Farm

Owner: Michael Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman

Trainer: Bob Baffert

Jockey: Flavien Prat

Speed Boat Beach scored the "Win and You're In" Santa Anita's Speakeasy Stakes in his first turf bid. It was just the second start of the colt's career, following his debut victory sprinting 5.5 furlongs on the dirt at Del Mar. Baffert also trained this boy's sire, 2014's Breeders' Cup Classic victor, Bayern, and broodmare sire, multiple G1 winner Pioneerof the Nile (who would go on to sire stable megastar in "Grand Slam" champion American Pharoah).

#12 The Platinum Queen (IRE) 7-2 ML

Breeder: Tally-Ho Stud

Owner: Middleham Park Racing XV

Trainer: Richard Fahey

Jockey: Hollie Doyle

The Platinum Queen (IRE) stamped her Breeders' Cup ticket in the Gr1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp, which is open to males and females, two-years-old and up, and therefore actually a "Win and You're In" for the Turf Sprint itself. She is a second-crop daughter of Exceed and Excel (AUS) scion Cotai Glory (GB) and out of the Kodiac (GB) mare Thrilled. Her resume impresses even beyond her last out victory, with four wins from seven starts, and two runner-up finishes.

Those placings came a nose behind Trillium in the Gr2 Flying Childers and 2-1/2 lengths back of the five-year-old Highfield Princess (FR) in the Gr1 Nunthorpe. Highfield Princess had previously won the Gr1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, would go on to also win the Gr1 Dubai Flying Five Stakes, and has been installed as the 7-2 ML second-choice in the Turf Sprint.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Debuted in the 2018 Championships

The Breeders' Cup implemented in 2018 the promotion of the undercard Juvenile Turf Sprint, an open race for both genders, to the Breeders' Cup World Championships program. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint carries a $1 million purse. The race will be run at about 5.5 furlongs on the turf and will be open to all 2-year-olds.

With the addition of the Juvenile Turf Sprint, there are now 14 races in this year's World Championships plus an additional $1 million in undercard purses. Total purses and awards for the 2020 event will now exceed $30 million.

"The upgrade of the Juvenile Turf Sprint is in response to the increasing popularity of turf racing in North America and will fill a need for international turf sprint sires," said Dora Delgado, Breeders' Cup Senior Vice President of Racing and Nominations. "Each year, the Juvenile Turf and the Juvenile Fillies Turf are oversubscribed at the Championships. We feel that Juvenile Turf Sprint will also be a popular draw among horsemen from North America and overseas stables and will generate interest among North American racetracks to card races in this division."

What is the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint?

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint is an American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses, run on a grass course at a distance of 5½ furlongs. It is part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships, the de facto year-end championship for North American thoroughbred racing. All Breeders' Cups to date have been conducted in the United States, with the exception of the 1996 event in Canada.

The race will be run for the first time as a Breeders' Cup Championship race in 2019 during the first day of the Breeders' Cup at host track, Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to 2019 the Juvenile Turf Sprint was run as an undercard race at the Breeders' Cup.
