FLORENCE, Ky., - The five stakes races that comprise the WinStar Kentucky Cup Day of Champions series at Turfway Park closed Thursday with a combined 161 nominations. The five races are part of a 12-race card set for Sat., Sept. 24. All five are preps for the $25.5 million Breeders' Cup World Championships in November. Post time is 1:10 p.m., returning that Saturday to the traditional afternoon post.
An automatic spot in the Breeders' Cup Mile is on the line this Sunday as 12 horses will look to win the $1 million Woodbine Mile at Woodbine Race Course in Toronto. Courageous Cat is the 3-1 morning line horse betting favorite in the field of 12.
Every Saturday this Fall at Belmont Park, the day will close with their first ever Guaranteed $300,000 Late Pick 4. The last four races usually begin with the seventh race at Belmont. If the Pick 4 pool isn't large enough to meet the $300,000 guarantee, NYRA will supplement the remaining money for the pool.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Winter Memories turned in her final workout in preparation for her Grade 1 debut in next Saturday's Garden City Stakes, breezing five furlongs in 1:03.48 Sunday morning over the inner turf course at Belmont Park, labeled good with the dogs out.
Wednesday's grade I, $250,000 Del Mar Futurity will crown a leader of California's 2-year-old division and offer the winner a guaranteed berth into the November 5 Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs. Under the enhanced conditions of the Breeders' Cup Challenge, the Del Mar Futurity winner will have his $60,000 in entry fees into the Juvenile paid for and the winning connections will be awarded a $10,000 travel allowance, provided their horse is nominated to the Breeders' Cup program by October 24.
The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will offer free grandstand admission at Belmont Park on opening weekend of the fall meet, Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2011. Opening Saturday also marks the first $300,000 Guaranteed Late Pick 4, which will be offered on Saturdays throughout the 2011 fall meet.
Closing Day at Del Mar on Wednesday will be highlighted by the Grade 1 $250,000 Del Mar Futurity. Two unbeaten horses, Creative Cause and Majestic City, are the top choices in betting odds in this field of eight. With 21 graded stakes worth $5 million, Belmont Park's fall meet will showcase a stellar lineup of champions-in-the-making when it opens for its 37-day meet on Saturday, September 10, with free grandstand admission all weekend.
