HORSE BETTING NEWS
The 56th running of the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes takes place this Saturday, June 23rd from Belmont Park. Three year old fillies will chase their share of the $300,000 purse when they go 1 1/16 miles around one turn on Belmont's main track.
Another week of horse racing action is in the books. There was no triple crown race on the schedule but there was still plenty of important graded stakes action. Here is a brief review of a few and how some of the favorites and the long shots paid.
The 71st running of the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap is on tap for this Saturday, June 16th from Betfair Hollywood Park. The race features fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to go 1 1/8 miles on Hollywood Park's cushion track. A nice purse of $250,000 is on the line for the Grade 1 race this weekend.
The 17th running of the Grade 3 Obeah Stakes comes our way this Saturday, June 16th from Delaware Park. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will go 1 1/8 miles on Delaware Park's main track in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
The Grade 3 All Along Stakes comes our way from Colonial Downs in New Kent County New Jersey this Saturday, June 16th. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be featured as they race 1 1/8 miles for their share of the $100,000 purse.
The 38th running of the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, June 16th from Belmont Park. Three year olds will go one mile on Belmont's turf course in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
Another year of Triple Crown racing comes to a close with the 144th Belmont Stakes over and done with. For the first time in a while, the sport of horse racing took up some pages in almost every publication in North America.
Wow... now that I'll Have Another has been scratched, it really takes the wind out of the sails of this big day. Nevertheless, the race will be run, so here are some observations.
I'll Have Another's bid for a Triple Crown ended Friday morning with the shocking news that the horse was out of the Belmont Stakes because of a swollen left front tendon. Trainer Doug O'Neill made the announcement on Dan Patrick's radio show this morning that I'll Have Another will be scratched from the 2012 Belmont Stakes and also retired.
