The attention in horse betting is starting to point to the 2012 Kentucky Derby with contenders racing on a weekly basis. There are a lot of contenders this early in the year, but here is a look at the top 10 horses that we could be seeing in the winner's circle in May.
A field of six is set to go a mile in the $400,000 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Sunday. The field is led by one of the leading Kentucky Derby contenders, Hansen, who is the 6-5 morning line favorite.
The $200,000 Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes comes our way on Sunday, January 29th from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The race is contested over seven furlongs, is open to three-year-old fillies and takes place on Gulfstream's dirt track. The Forward Gal is the 9th race on Gulfstream's Sunday schedule and has a post time of 4:17 PM ET
The 45th running of the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes takes place Saturday, January 28th at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race is open to fillies, three years old and covers a distance of one and one-sixteenths miles (8.5 furlongs) on Santa Anita's main dirt track. $100,000 is on the line with seven three-year olds taking to the track.
The 55th running of the Grade 1 Santa Monica Stakes takes place on Saturday, January 28th for fillies and mares four years old and upward. The $300,000 purse will be contested at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race covers seven furlongs and is raced on Santa Anita's main dirt track. Seven entries will run in the 9th race on Saturday's card with a post time of 4:00 PM PT.
Saturday January 28th is Florida Sunshine Millions Day at Gulfstream Park. It promises to be a tremendous day of racing - one that has brought together 48 of the best horses in the country to vie for a total of $1.3 million in purse money. Six races are on tap featuring Florida-breds exclusively on a schedule that features at least one graded stakes winner in every race.

The Daily Racing Form, National Thoroughbred Racing Association and National Turf Writers Association all came together as they do every year to determine this year's winners.
The 38th running of the $150,000 Grade 2 La Cañada Stakes comes our way on Sunday, January 22nd at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race features four-year-old fillies and it covers a distance of 1 1/16 miles on Santa Anita's main track.
The Grade 2 Palos Verdes Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, January 21st at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The race is open to horses age four and up and it covers 6 furlongs on Santa Anita's dirt track. A $150,000 purse will be up for grabs in the 8th race on Saturday's card. Post time for the Palos Verdes is 4:07 PM PST.
The Grade 3 $175,000 LeComte Stakes will take place on Saturday, January 21 at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is open to 3-year-olds and will be run over 1 mile and 40 yards (8.2 furlongs) on the Fair Grounds' dirt main track. The LeComte is an important prep race for trainers hoping to take part in the $1 million Louisiana Derby, and potentially the Kentucky Derby later this year.
