The 144th season of thoroughbred racing at the storied Saratoga Race Course begins this Friday, July 20th - a 40 day meet that promises typically electric action in upstate New York. The top trainers, horses and jockeys will once again hit the track to contest 54 graded stakes races - at least one every day during the meet. It is an absolutely jam-packed season ahead - let's take a look at some of the highlights.
Saratoga Race Course opens this Friday with a pair of graded stakes races. The second on the schedule is the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes - a six furlong dash for fillies two years old. $150,000 is on the line for these up-and-coming females.
The Grade 3 James Marvin Stakes comes our way from Saratoga Race Course this Friday, July 20th - the first day for racing and of Saratoga's summer meet. Horses three years old and upward will dash seven furlongs on Saratoga's main track in search of their share of the $100,000 purse.
Another weekend of graded stakes action is done - it was quite a weekend for one trainer especially at Betfair Hollywood Park. Along with Hollywood Park, Delaware Park, Belmont and Monmouth all hosted significant races over the two days - let's take a look at some of the results.
Las Vegas, NV - The up-and-comers take center stage at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday July 14th when the 73rd running of the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship is run. Two year olds will show their stuff when they go six furlongs on Hollywood Park's main track for their share of the $200,000 purse.
The Grade 2 A Gleam Handicap A Gleam Handicap comes our way this Saturday, July 14 th from Betfair Hollywood Park on the American Oaks Stakes undercard. Fillies and mares will be featured as they go seven furlongs for their portion of the $200,000 purse.
The Grade 3 Jersey Shores Stakes comes our way from Monmouth Park this Saturday, July 14th. Three year olds will dash six furlongs on Monmouth's main dirt track in search of their share of the $100,000 purse.
Betfair Hollywood Park is the scene for the 11th running of the Grade 1 American Oaks Stakes this Saturday, July 14th during the last weekend of racing at Hollywood Park this summer. A stellar purse of $400,000 is on the line for three year old fillies willing to go 1-1/4 miles on Hollywood Park's turf track.
The Grade 1 Man O'War Stakes comes our way from Belmont Park the Saturday July 14th. A whopping purse of $600,000 is on the line for horses three years old and upward willing to go 1 3/8 miles on Belmont's turf track.
The Grade 3 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes takes place this Saturday, July 14th from Delaware Park - home of the Delaware Oaks which goes on the same card. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will be after their share of the $250,000 purse when they go 1 3/8 miles on Delaware Park's turf track.
